We all want to heal our body and mind and overcome painful feelings and emotions, but we often don’t know how. The methods we instinctively use to make ourselves feel better — such as drinking alcohol or scrolling on social media — might even leave us feeling worse than before.
Yet Buddha taught that with the right methods it is possible – and quite straightforward – to begin to heal ourselves. Through effective meditation we can all learn to deal with painful feelings at their root and replace them with the positive feelings that come from a peaceful mind.
In these two practical talks and follow up meditations, the internationally renowned Buddhist teacher Gen-la Dekyong will explain how we can incorporate the ancient art of meditation into our busy modern lives. Through even a little regular meditation, we can improve our life, discover a deeper happiness, and gradually heal our body and mind.
Improve Your Mind, Improve Your Life | 10.30am – 12pm
Meditation and Q&A 12.30pm – 1.15pm with Kadam Lucy, Teacher at KMC London
We work so hard to make our lives better, trying to find jobs, homes, or relationships that will truly satisfy us. And yet our efforts so often fall short, leaving us still seeking but not quite finding what we want. Even when we do get what we want, it rarely feels exactly as we imagined — and sometimes the things we once dreamed of become the very things that now cause us so much difficulty. Why is that, and how can we break this cycle?
Buddha taught that the world we experience depends on the mind, and so, without improving our mind, the energy we put into improving external conditions cannot bring about lasting or meaningful change. By practicing the methods he taught, we can gain mastery of our thoughts and gradually replace negative habits with positive ones. As a result, everything in our life — our relationships, our work, and our daily peace of mind — will improve naturally. Eventually, we will know how to make ourselves happy all the time, regardless of what life throws at us.
Discovering A Deeper Kind Of Happiness | 2:15pm – 3.45pm
Meditation and Q&A 4.15pm – 5pm with Kadam John, Teacher at Heruka KMC
On a good day, a nice meal in the company of friends can feel like a treat. But what do we have to show for it once the meal is over? Why does the pleasure of that experience do so little to reduce our overall anxiety and stress? And is it the best kind of happiness we can hope for?
Not according to Buddha. Buddha taught that we have the potential to experience a far deeper, more satisfying, and long-lasting happiness by developing the capacity of our mind. In this talk, we will learn simple, practical methods to do just that. By gradually integrating these simple, practical methods into our daily life, we can cultivate a stable inner peace that enables us to deal with our problems and experience a deep happiness that is far superior to the fleeting happiness of our ordinary sense pleasures.
Each talk is self-contained, no lunch is provided, but many lovely cafes, restaurants & shops are local to the venue.
